If there’s anything that is influential in your design work, it has to be color. Color does so much for any design project. It’s one of the most important choices that you can make in your design. What happens when you need to choose related colors? Creating a color palette is one the most important things you can do for your design work. The problem is, it’s hard to generate a decent color palette any other way than by your own selection. However, Adobe illustrator has a panel that is very useful for creating color pallets. In this video tutorial, I’ll show you tips and using the color guide in Adobe Illustrator.

If you’re not familiar with the color guide panel, it’s a very useful panel for selecting color pallets. You can pick a specific color and determine a set of rules to generate related collapse. These rules are based on the color models that you likely learned in design school. You’ll find complementary colors, analogous colors, tetrads and triads. The color guide will generate colors that fit this model, along with four or five tints and shades related to those colors.

The car guide has a lot of different options. You can select from the color model that you want to follow when choosing your color palette. You can also use different options to specify how many steps of tints and shades are generated to the left and right of your base colors. In the video, I show you how useful this can be in your design work.
