Levels Trick in Photoshop
Sometimes you don’t want to spend a ton of time making selections and cutting out images in Photoshop. It can be a real pain to make selections, masks and more. It also seems like a waste when you have to do this for a subtle gray or gradient background. A while back, I discovered this neat levels trick in Photoshop to instantly make a grey background white. This method is by no means an end all technique, but it can save you a few minutes if you’re really crunched for time. In the tutorial video, I’ll show you my quick Levels trick for turning a background all white.
The problem with making a selection around objects is that you don’t always have time. Of course if it is for a high end client’s work, you should make the time to do things right. However, if you are fixing up an image on the spot for someone, or the image is for a quick mockup, you don’t want to waste any time fixing it up to perfection. If it’s for a mockup, you may end up trashing it anyway. You’ll notice if you move the grey slider in the Levels panel, it affects the red of the Angular.js logo and makes it pink. You don’t want to alter colors and make them off. My method keeps those colors in tact.
What do you think about this Levels trick? You can really shave off some time when using this trick. Whether you’re in a pinch or just throwing a quick mockup together, this trick is simple enough for anyone. There are all kinds of little tricks like these in Photoshop.
