Artboard Tips in Illustrator

One of the coolest features I think Illustrator has ever created is the ability to create art boards. Art boards are so handy for creating different types of documents all rolled into one single file. This is great for identity and branding projects because you can include a business card design, flyer design, a letterhead design, and an envelope design all one compact file. You don’t have to open a bunch of different files in order to access different elements from each one. You can consistently create branding projects and reuse elements across different files. Of course, you’ll have to save these files separately when it’s time for printing, but the entire workflow process is sped up. While working with art boards in Adobe Illustrator, I discovered a few tricks to make your life easier. In this tutorial video, will show you some simple artboard tips in illustrator.

My favorite feature of all is the fact that you can double-click the art board tool and select from a number of presets, built right into Adobe Illustrator. This is handy for designers of all types, mainly because you don’t have to remember different screen sizes or document file sizes.

You can also name each art board, making it easy to find the park board in the project that you’re looking for. For example, if you create a design for the Nexus, you can name that art board Nexis. If you create the same design, then optimize it for an iPad, you can name that art board iPad. This helps you to keep track of your different design files with in one document. You don’t have to keep track of different sizes, and you don’t have to worry about second-guessing yourself.

The art board tool is something I use on a daily basis in Adobe Illustrator. After using it for so long, I don’t know how I ever got by without it. Its simple functionality streamlines my workflow, and makes my entire design process much easier. Do you have any artboard tips in Illustrator?
