Working with Type in Photoshop
Any time that you can save time when creating design work is a plus. Photoshop is the go-to tool for creating vibrant effects and type is no different. Something as simple as choosing the right typeface can be a pain. It can be a real time-consuming task if you don’t know the quickest way to cycle through your library of typefaces. There have been times where I was crunched for time and needed to come up with a design on the fly. I’ll admit, I am not inspired 24/7, but being able to flip through many typefaces quickly is a life saver. I end up flipping through my font library until I have that “ah-ha” moment. In this video, I will share with you a few time saving tricks for working with type in Photoshop.
Besides the tips I shared in the video above, there are a few other type tips that I can give you. If you double-click your text and it doesn’t select all of your text, meaning it only highlights some of the text, if you want to highlight all of the text in that text area, simply hit Command or Ctrl + A. I know this is a simple keyboard shortcut, but it beats having to click and drag.
There are other shortcuts for type styles. For example, if you hold Command/Ctrl + Shift + B, your text will change to bold. Command/Ctrl + Shift + I will make your text italic. Command/Ctrl + Shift + U will underline all of your selected text. Command/Ctrl + Shift + K will change your text to all caps. Command/Ctrl + Shift + L will left align all selected text. Command/Ctrl + Shift + R will right align all selected text. Command/Ctrl + Shift + C will center all selected text. These are extremely helpful when working with type in Photoshop. Just remember Command + Control, and whatever the basic command starts with.

Working with type in Photoshop doesn’t have to be a pain. You can use simple shortcuts to save clicks and save from sifting through menus. Anytime you don’t have to stop what you are doing or surf through menus will save you time. Your type will look more uniform as well.
