Quick Type Treatment

by | Mar 7, 2010 | Photoshop, Tutorials, Typography | 0 comments

This tutorial will create a glossy/shiny effect in Photoshop that is real simple, but it better than just plain text. To create this quick type treatment, create a new document in Photoshop. Mine is 600 x 800, but use your own size for your own purposes. Choose a nice bold text, using Arial black or another very bold font.

You can use any color to suit your purpose. Double-click the text layer and add an outer glow. I chose a nice blue, but again, you can choose a color to suit your purposes.

Then, use the marquee too to make an oval whose lower half takes up the width of the type and make a new layer. Fill the oval with white. The, go to the layers palette and hold alt, and click between the type layer and the marquee layer, creating a clipping mask from the type layer. Lower the opacity of the oval layer to 30%.

Double click the text layer to bring up blending options. Click on gradient overlay and set the blending mode to overlay and click on reverse.

You can play around with these options to suit your needs, but this is a very “web 2.0” style gloss effect.
