Free Geometric Abstract Backgrounds
Creating a uniform pattern used to be a pain in any design program, but especially Illustrator. That all changed with the pattern making capabilities within the last upgrade to CS6. The new pattern maker can really save you time when creating uniform seamless patterns. However, what do you do when you want to create a randomized pattern or effect in Illustrator? There is not a way to simply dial in instructions and create a pattern. You can spend hours arranging elements to get them to look just right. That’s where today’s free files come in today. Today you can download 4 brilliant free geometric abstract backgrounds. Below are shots of what these backgrounds look like:
The image above has a popular circle effect that is popular. The only this I might do is remove a couple of elements, like the flourish, and then change some of the colors so they are more pleasing together. Instead of flat effects, I might change these to gradients to add more dimension to them.
The halftone effect is nice, but again I might take away some of the elements, like the flourish. The overlay color effect is interesting, I just might arrange some elements differently.
I like the dark background fade here with the splash of colors. I would remove the dimensional geometric shapes and the halftone effect and just leave the vertical rounded stripes. The dark area on the left would be a great place for text.
I like how the light and shadow areas add dimension to these shapes, making them appear to come forward in some places and recede in others.
Conclusion
The elements above make a great base for creating abstract backgrounds. I would mix and match them and combine effects to see what I could come up with. These effects work especially well on dark backgrounds, because the colors just seem to burst outward. What will you use these free geometric abstract backgrounds for?
